sept. 14-18 picturesOur Last Week: We had another really fun week of Kindergarten! This week we worked more on our “All About Me” page and read a few stories about what makes us all unique. Instead of starting our JumpMath workbooks, we worked on graphing different features about ourselves like the different colours of our hair and the colours of our eyes and hence linked our Social Studies Unit into our Math Unit. We finished our writing strokes booklet and sent it home for you to look at. In Music, we have been learning about creating beats with Mrs. Gibson. On Friday, the morning students got to start on our Kindness Unit. We read the book “Love You When” by Linda Kranz and painted a rock each. Our goal is to take these special rocks, once they are painted, and spread them around the school for someone else to find and bring a little joy to their day. September 21-25 This week we are excited to delve a little more into our Science topic on apples and will learn the different parts of an apple as well as do a sink/float experiment. We will also start our JumpMath workbooks and work on counting numbers 1-5. We will send home the pages we work on for you to check and review and practice more with your child. We will also start going outside every day for 10-20 minutes. We will learn Covid-friendly games to play or just enjoy some outside free-time and fresh air. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather every day. Our Terry Fox Run will take place this Wednesday. Your child is welcome to wear red for our Canadian hero, Terry. We will be collecting toonies for Terry as well to donate. Parent-Teacher Conferences This year, our parent-teacher conferences will be done over the phone. Your child’s teacher will be phoning you in the 15-minute time slot you choose and discuss how your child is adjusting to Kindergarten. Please use your MyCBE account to log in. Should you have any issues with the process please call our office for assistance. This is a chance for us to get to know each other and bring up any issues that need to be discussed in order to help your child be successful. Mrs. Legere’s conferences (am & pm classes) will be on September 24th and 25 th and Mrs. Isaak’s conferences (am class) will be on September 24th. Orange Shirt Day This is a day to learn about and remember the residential school system. We recognize this day by wearing an orange shirt. Your child is welcome to wear an orange shirt and any pants instead of their uniform on September 30th. Upcoming Dates: Sept. 23: Terry Fox Run (wear red instead of uniform) Sept. 24-25: No School for K for Parent-Teacher Conferences (via phone calls) Sept. 30: Orange Shirt Day (A day to remember and talk about residential schools) Oct. 2: PM Class attends 9:10-1:00PM Oct. 9: No School (Non-Instructional Day) Oct. 12: No School (Thanksgiving Day)

We had a wonderful week last week. We practiced different line strokes between the primary printing lines, used our agendas every day, the afternoon students got to paint their apples, we learned about the Coronavirus and read stories and did activities all about ourselves. This upcoming week we will readjust with new class configurations. Some students have been moved from one class to another and we said goodbye to Mr. Dalderis as he has been reassigned in the school and there will now be a combined Kindergarten class in the afternoon. Mr. Dalderis will be there to support us as students will transition to a new classroom and teacher. So, this week we will work on getting settled, getting to know each other again and being kind and gentle with each other. We know change is hard but rest assured that we are here for you and your child. This week we will have picture day on Monday. We will continue working on writing different lines in our booklets and sending home the same homework expectations: write the writing stroke we learned that day 5 times underneath the line we completed at school. We will check homework every day and give a checkmark or feedback so please check for that. Homework Practice this week: Monday: write 5 diagonal back lines (with a finger-space between each one) Tuesday: write 5 diagonal down lines Wednesday: write 5 horizontal lines Thursday: write 5 clock strokes We will continue our art and stories that describe each one of us and how unique we are. We will also start our Math lessons using our JumpMath work books. We will be starting with recognizing sets of numbers up to 5 and connecting a set of objects to the numeral for that number. Please remember to read through and complete all the beginning of the year forms that were sent last week. We will also be sending home a “Walking Field Trip” form that will give us permission to walk over to a playground for outside time as we are currently not allowed to share the playground equipment. We will try our best to go outside for some fresh air and movement every day so please dress your child appropriately for the weather. Important Upcoming Dates:
Monday, September 14th: Picture Day (wear formal uniform) Friday, September 18th: AM class attends; PM class – no school Friday, September 25th: No School September 8th, 2020
Dear Parents/Guardians, Our first week together went very well. We focused on getting to know each other and learning when to put our masks on and when to take them off, going to the washroom, and doing our agenda notes. We started our Science Unit on apples by talking about things we know about apples and things we want to learn. The morning students got to paint apples on Friday and the afternoon students will get their turn this upcoming Friday. This week we will be starting to practice writing by learning different strokes. We will be sending home a blue scribbler every day with the type of line/stroke we learned that day and we ask that you help your child slowly practice it at home. We ask that you practice one line with your child each evening and do it slowly and carefully using the vocabulary on the printout we will be sending home as well. Think of it as a practice to our upcoming homework which will start in October. Enjoy J We will also be talking about our Social Studies Unit: All About Me. This week we will do art and writing/labelling activities about ourselves. If you haven’t sent your child all black indoor shoes please do so this week. These shoes should be labelled with your child’s name and will remain at school. Some new important upcoming dates: Friday, Sept. 11: Afternoon Group comes to school 9:10-1:00pm Monday, Sept. 14: Picture Day Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are so excited to be teaching your children this year. Here are some important notes about Kindergarten. Homework folders: I am sure you have found in your child’s backpack a blue homework folder. This will have your child’s agenda, and any important documents to be read and signed by you. Please always check and sign your child’s agenda under the correct date. This is how we will be communicating with you in addition to posts on weebly. Checking the agenda and homework folders will be important to keep up with documents that are being sent home to you and need your attention. Once we start homework, we will be putting your child’s homework notebooks in there as well. Snacks: Please ensure you pack your child a snack and a filled water bottle each day for snack time. It would be very helpful for us teachers if students are able to open their snack or if you can pre-open their snacks to limit the numbers of snacks we touch. As you might have noticed, we are asking students to put all the wrappers and garbage from their snacks back in their lunch bags to be thrown out at home. Also, remember to have nut-free snacks. Fridays: On Fridays, classes start from 9:10-1:00pm. Please note this is different than the Monday-Thursday schedule which ends at 12:04. Your child will attend alternating Fridays. Please click on the "Calendars" tab on the left to see and print the alternating Fridays schedule. For September, morning students will attend school on Sept. 4th and 18th and the afternoon students will attend on September 11th. Because the day is an hour longer on Fridays, please ensure you pack your child a snack and lunch. We are so looking forward to working with you this year. Mr. Dalderis Mrs. Isaak Ms. Legere |
